OUR PROCESS.

At Avshz Avshz, we are innovative and forward thinking in our approach to clothing design; we dress the individual customer. The Avshz Avshz design and tailoring process is appreciated for the level of craftsmanship as well as for our renowned house style. Here, we describe the steps taken: your measurement and cloth selection, our behind-the-scenes work, the small, unseen details and the many hands that come together to produce a final, individual Avshz Avshz garment.

Bespoke Both+Neither clients will have sole access to Avshz Avshz’s exclusive cloth library. Other exclusive benefits to Avshz Avshz’s clients include visits to your home or office, by one of our design partners, whichever is convenient for you, to discuss your commission, and invitations to all our exclusive events.

Due to the growing success of this service and limited capacity, Bespoke Both+Neither customers will be asked to join a waiting list to ensure delivery within 12 weeks.

AN INVESTMENT IN TIME

A beautifully tailored garment takes time. Time to get to know you, your physique, your busy life, your tastes and preferences. Time for fittings, for sourcing the best fabrics, time to get everything just right, so that when you finally put the finished garment on, you never want to take it off.

As an Avshz Avshz client, you’ll benefit from the knowledge of a team that’s dedicated to achieving that result for you.

CHOOSING YOUR CLOTH

Once you have decided to have a bespoke garment made, you have all your questions about our process answered clearly. Depending on your lifestyle, the climate you live in, how often you travel and your career, our team will advise on three weights of cloth: Tropical/Lightweight (mostly for Summer), Mid-Weight (the most popular, most versatile) and Heavy (long-lasting winter fabrics).

We will introduce you to the different bespoke styles and fabrics you could choose. you will be invited to select from a wide range of cloths and patterns, including a choice of exclusively woven ‘Specials’ for Avshz Avshz. Here, we determine the primary use of the garment in fitting with your lifestyle. You might decide on our extensive range of G.O.T.S certified organic fleece and jerseys; versatile pure new wool, cashmere, supple silk, or cotton and linen. Velvet is an option and we also have a selection of Vicuna. The bespoke process begins the moment you have chosen the cloth that suits you.

SELECTING THE TRIMMINGS

At the first meeting, you may have given us special requests: perhaps a particular lining colour or customised buttons. Components, such as the lining, buttons, zips, cording and canvas, are known as ‘the trimmings’, unique features added to either make a statement or subtle choices to personalise the garment with understated elegance. Our in-house Trimmer will add all the other necessary components that go into the garment’s construction.

UNDERSTANDING THE CUSTOMER’S SHAPE AND TAKING MEASUREMENTS

We begin by taking your measurements, up to 50 individual measurements. Our measurement method is a flowing, artistic marriage of the eye, intuition, experience and precision to realise your dimensions – keeping in mind the unique visual cues: such as posture and the way you stand. Our ability to continue thinking in three dimension means that when we cut your cloth, we will make subtle adjustments to the fit and hang that, at this point, only we can see.

Conversations about fabrics, linings and other details can be as wide-ranging or as simple as you like. Many clients enjoy making their garments uniquely suited to their lifestyle, with hidden pockets for a cigar, phone, loose change or even an iPad.

Once sized up, this information is added to our measure book, and will join our records, updated or adjusted as time moves forward and whenever you return to be measured again.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FIRST FITTING

Once these decisions are made, the fabric panels are handed over to the Cutter they will roughly stitch the pieces together for your first fitting, the day you finally get a feel for your bespoke garment when you try on a temporary, basted version with white cotton stitching. As you observe yourself in a mirror, quick flowing marks and cuts are made to the white cotton so the garment can be deconstructed and perfected later. It is a coupling of the Cutter’s eye and sense of proportion, and your thoughts so far.

The Cutter can see how well the garment is working on you: how it fits, how it hangs, how it moves. Adjustments are made and a second fitting planned, where the garment will be closer to what you might expect to see. There may be the need for more fittings, but generally we’re then able to take your outfit to the finishing stage.

FINAL FITTING

The day has finally arrived to discover your bespoke garment. The final fitting is not necessarily the last fitting, however. The Cutter will inspect the finished garment on you and decide if they are happy with the way it fits your body and ask if there are areas that require adjustment. If so, we’ll keep it on site to make these changes. It could be just a quarter of an inch on the sleeves, a slight raising or lowering of the neck line, anything, no matter how big or small, to ensure it fits the Avshz Avshz standard.

AFTERCARE

Our service doesn’t end at delivery. This is the beginning of a new process, we check in with you a few weeks later and we’re here to provide our customers with exclusive aftercare services, including a professional sponge and press to help preserve the garment’s longevity, as well as readjustments, or fixing general wear-and-tear. Now that you are invested in the story and heritage of our house, we want your Avshz Avshz garment to bring you enjoyment for many years to come.
